Keeping A Screenshot Of The Sale

Keeping a screenshot of the sale helps if messages disappear, banking references change, or you need to check the collection later. Save the written offer, payment confirmation, buyer details and receipt, but crop or avoid exposing extra personal information that has nothing to do with the scrap car.

  • Quote: Capture the agreed price, registration number and any condition notes that affected the final offer.
  • Payment: Save the transfer confirmation or payment reference once the amount is visible and correct in your account.
  • Receipt: Keep the buyer's receipt or collection confirmation with the date, vehicle details and final price.
  • Privacy: Crop unrelated balances, old messages, customer details or private documents before sharing screenshots onward again.

Screenshots Are Useful When Messages Move On

Keeping a screenshot of the sale sounds small, but it can save bother later. A scrap car handover often happens through a mix of phone calls, text messages, bank notifications and collection updates. Two weeks later, the one detail you need may be buried inside a long thread or no longer visible.

For a Nelson seller, the best screenshots are not random. They show the offer, the vehicle, the buyer, the payment and the receipt. Together, they prove the path from quote to collection without making you search through every conversation on your phone.

Start With The Written Offer

Screenshot the message that confirms the price. It should ideally show the registration number or enough detail to identify the car. If the quote was based on the car being complete, having keys, rolling freely or being collected from a certain address, keep that part too.

This matters if the price is challenged at pickup. A saved offer is stronger than saying, "someone told me on the phone." It also helps if a relative handles the collection and needs to show the driver what was agreed.

Save Payment Proof Carefully

When the transfer arrives, take a screenshot that shows the amount, date and reference. Do not expose more than needed. If your bank app displays unrelated balances, other transactions or account information, crop the screenshot before sharing it with anyone.

The screenshot is mainly for your own record. It should sit beside the receipt, not replace it. If the payment shows as pending first, wait and save the final confirmation when the amount is properly visible in your account.

Capture Collection And Buyer Details

A useful sale record also includes who collected the vehicle and when. Screenshot the buyer or company name, appointment time, driver message and any collection confirmation. If the driver sends a photo or receipt, save that too, but check it does not show unnecessary private surroundings or documents.

If the car was collected from a garage, workplace or relative's address, keep the collection address in your notes. It explains where the vehicle left from if you need to reconstruct the handover later.

Keep A Folder, Not A Pile

Screenshots become less useful when they are scattered. Put them in a phone album, cloud folder or email thread named with the registration number. Add the receipt, bank proof and any DVLA or insurance notes when the job is complete.

The goal is not to collect evidence forever. It is to keep enough proof until the payment, vehicle record and insurance loose ends are settled. A few clear screenshots can make a Nelson scrap car sale much easier to close.

If you use cloud backup, check the images have uploaded before deleting the originals from your phone. If you prefer email, send them to yourself on collection day with the registration in the subject line. The method matters less than being able to find the proof quickly.

Do the same for the final receipt. A screenshot of the quote is helpful, but the completed sale needs evidence that the car was collected and the payment matched the agreement.
